The emblematic tree of the Sárospatak Castle Garden is the old Japanese Acacia (Sophora japonica), the oldest tree in the park, which is 180-190 years old and has many local stories associated with it. The tree has aged rapidly in recent years, losing a significant part of its canopy. In 2017, it underwent an ultrasound scan by experts, and in 2018 it underwent professional care with modern techniques and its branches were fixed. It has since sprouted beautifully and its flowering canopy is still a fantastic sight to see today.
