The Rákóczi Castle in Sárospatak is one of the most important late Renaissance buildings in Hungary, which is not only popular with tourists but also an important part of the Hungarian cultural heritage. This castle can be seen on the reverse of the Hungarian 500 forint. The Rákóczi Castle was completely renovated in the 1960s and has since become a major tourist attraction, with over 100,000 visitors a year.
The Rákóczi exhibition in the castle offers a unique insight into the life and times of Ferenc Rákóczi II, which won the Museum of the Year Award in 2003. Through interactive displays and historical relics, visitors can learn more about the history of the Rákóczi family and the events of the War of Independence.
Whether it's a cultural interest, a passion for history or simply a nice day out, the castle and its surroundings offer something for everyone.
